For our captivating tunic, we have adapted the lovely blue-and-white blossoms (plum blossoms symbolize spring's arrival) and intricate scroll motifs from two Qing (1644– 1911) covered jars in the Museum’s collection, both of which were made during the reign of the emperor Kangxi (r. 1662–1722). During his reign and that of his two Qing successors, Chinese porcelain production reached its peak of excellence in terms of ceramic quality and the skillful firing of glazes to achieve subtle and attractive effects.
