In the Museum’s collection is a rare Tibetan iron and leather shaffron (ca. 1450–1650), which is by far the most elaborately decorated of any known examples to date. The quality and execution of its lavish gold and silver damascening rank among the best Tibetan decorated ironwork of this kind, suggesting it was made for a very high- ranking commander. An elegant patterned textile that adorns this shaffron has been adapted for our handsome tablet case.
