Art HistoryThe American Arts and Crafts movement was linked to the mid-nineteenth-century British movement, which sought to improve standards of decorative design, believed to have been debased by mechanization, and to create beautiful environments that showcased fine workmanship. The influential movement, which lasted into the 1920s, spurred the production of handcrafted ceramics, furniture, lamps, bookbindings, textiles, and jewelry.
