Austrian Deco Beaded Clutch
Description
The Museum's Costume Institute collection contains more than 400 bags and purses, many of which feature Art Deco design. Our artful clutch is based on a dazzling black-and- white beaded bag produced in Austria in 1923.

Art History
The Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes held in Paris in 1925—the state-sponsored fair from which the name Art Deco is derived—marked the apogee of the Art Deco style. Its popularity continued worldwide into the 1930s, and was applied by artists and designers to the enormous range of decorative arts and architecture created between the two world wars.
