Description

A splendid carpet in the Museums collection was woven in the seventeenth century in Iran. It features a distinctive pattern formed by tightly overlapping cartouches. These are exceptionally varied in coloring, and are adorned with finely drawn palmettes growing from a vine system. In its floral forms, technical structure, and rich color scheme, this carpet is related to similar carpets from Kirman in southern Iran. Its unusual cartouche design, however, is also found in two carpets that have been attributed to central Iran. This beautiful carpet is the source for our chic tote design.

Coated cotton canvas. Tapered shape. Top-zip closure. Inside zip and open pockets. Fully lined. 12 5/8''H x 22''W (at top) x 6''D; 9'' handle drop.
