Description
In the Museum's collection includes a splendid tile (ca. 1574–1578) made in Iznik. The design on our sturdy ceramic travel cup is based on the original tile.

Art History
During the age of the great Ottoman sultan Süleyman the Magnificent (1494–1566), Iznik, a small town in northwestern Turkey, emerged as one of the most important centers for ceramic production in the Middle East. In the Museum’s collection is a splendid tile (ca. 1574–78) made in Iznik. Decorated with blue, green, and thickly applied red underglaze on a bright white ground, the design features Chinese- style cloud bands intertwined with saz leaves and abstract floral elements.
