Description

In 1893, Claude Monet (French, 18401926) had a pond dug and planted with water lilies at his home in Giverny. He first painted it in 1899, and thereafter it dominated his art. Water Lilies, the Museum's painting on which our colorful umbrella is based, was begun in the 1910s and remained in Monet's studio for the rest of his life.
