The brilliant mosaic border in the extraordinary Garden Landscape
(ca. 1905–15) in the Metropolitan Museum’s American Wing is the source for our watch. By freeing the glass from traditional shapes and colors, Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933) created extraordinary and luminous imagery in mosaic that was unrealizable until that time. The lush, romantic landscape is framed by a geometric ornamental border dominated by greens and blues set against a shimmering gold- foil- backed textured glass. The Museum's watch is based on the mosaic pattern from this piece.
