Description

The delicate design of our watch is based on Louis Comfort Tiffany’s (American, 1848–1933) reverence for nature. He expressed his appreciation in many of his stained glass window panels, often featuring pure landscapes and vivid depictions of flowers, plants, and animals. One of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s many interpretations of nature is the decorative Grapevine panels, originally made for a private residence, and now in the collection of the American Wing of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The two panels feature jewel-like clusters of grapes on trailing vines silhouetted against a distant sky. The broad leaves are rendered in a wide variety of greens touched with blue, purple, and even pink, and the slender lines of the grapevines—some lead, some glass—are delicate and fluid.

18K gold overlay case. Printed plastic band. Quartz movement. Band: adjusts from 5 7/8'' to 7 7/8''; Case: 1 1/4''L x 13/16''W. Water resistant case.

Art History

Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) is known for creating one of a kind art objects—handblown vases, special order mosaics and windows, and finely crafted jewelry—consistent with his mission to bring beauty into the home. His stained glass brought him the most recognition, particularly his opalescent Favrile glass. Louis Comfort Tiffany's opalescent Favrile glass was internally colored with variegated shades of the same or different hues and had a milky, opaque, and sometimes rainbow-hued appearance when light shone through it.
