Art History

A master of many media, Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 18481933) was one of America's most noted decorative artists at the turn of the century. Louis C. Tiffany began his career as a painter but moved quickly to interior decoration. In addition to stained-glass windows and lighting fixtures, his studios also made luminous glass vases and bowls, pottery, furniture, textiles, jewelry, and works in bronze and enamel. Louis Comfort Tiffany's country house, Laurelton Hall, was his architectural masterpiece. Situated on 600 acres overlooking Long Island Sound, the sprawling estate was a showcase both for his own work and for his vast collection of artwork and decorative art from around the world.
