2026 Star, Snowflake, and Angel Tree Ornament Set
Annual ornaments inspired by The Met collection.
This collectible ornament set for 2026 celebrates three objects in The Met collection.
This year's star ornament borrows its distinctive geometric design from the eight-pointed stars decorating the lid and base of a medieval Spanish box in The Met collection. The original box boasts a striking octagonal shape and astounding marquetry—a technique mastered by woodworkers in the Islamic region of Spain known as al-Andalus of piecing different materials together to create a pattern. The band of linked, rotated squares on the sides of the lid resembles a marquetry pattern found in the late 12th- or early 13th-century Qasba Mosque in Marrakech, Morocco, suggesting a similar date range for the Museum's box. Our star likewise adapts the box's interlaced square and checkerboard motifs in homage to the elaborate detailing on this Andalusi treasure.
The detailing on this year's snowflake ornament comes from a horn, bone, and silk case in the Museum's holdings. Crafted in the 19th century, the original case is notable for its remarkable carvings in the medieval style.
Our 2026 Angel Tree Ornament reimagines an ethereal angel (second half 18th century) from The Met's celebrated Christmas Tree and Neapolitan Baroque Crèche. This popular Museum installation features an elaborate 18th-century Neapolitan Nativity scene at the base of the tree, with a host of exquisitely carved and dressed angels soaring in the branches above the Holy Family. The decoration and illumination of this majestic tree is a cherished annual event of the holiday season.
This ornament trio is available exclusively for the 2026 holiday season.
