Description

Our wood lacquer disc ornament set showcases three divine scenes in The Met collection: Philippe de Champaigne's (French, b. Belgium, 1602–1674) The Annunciation (ca. 1644), a feat of French classicism in which an ethereal archangel Gabriel reveals to the Virgin Mary that she would immaculately conceive the son of God; Luca Giordano's (Italian, 1634–1705) depiction of the same subject (1672), inspired by the Venetian artist, Titian; and Ignacio de Ries's (Spanish, 1616–after 1665) Saint Michael the Archangel (1640s), which portrays a glorious Saint Michael casting Satan out of heaven.
