Description

The serpentine motif on this elegant embroidered pillow reinterprets a spectacular beaded collar (ca. 1981–1975 B.C.) crafted in ancient Egypt and now in The Met collection. Known as the Broad Collar of Wah, this bold blue adornment was carefully designed using faience beads of diminishing lengths to create the curved form, and is considered one of the finest examples of its type from the early Middle Kingdom. This collar is part of a set of funerary jewelry belonging to Wah, the estate manager of Meketre.
