Description

These pretty correspondence cards take after a watercolor by Jacob Marrel, a 17th-century German dealer of prints and tulips, as well as a still-life painter. During his career, he celebrated the range of tulip varietals in six illustrated books, three of which are still intact. Marrel's work coincided with "tulip mania," when the Dutch craze for the flower led to wild speculation, and eventually an economic crash in 1637. While the tulip only arrived in Europe from Turkey in the 1580s, it quickly became beloved as the "national flower" of Holland.

Expertly engraved with gold foil, these charming cards add a bit of this rich history to your thank-you notes or friendly correspondence.

Cards and envelopes don't match - cards are ecru, envelopes are white, both are flimsy paper. Really disappointed.

I purchased these notecards at ...

I purchased these notecards at the Met store on 5th Ave. and the card sample looked beautiful . To my dismay, when i got home and opened the box, discovered that the envelope quality does not match the card...envelope is much whiter, and a much lighter paper quality than the card. Does not look good. Envelope should match the quality of the notecard. I am too lazy to return them.

Not heavy card stock.. beautiful embossing

The gold embossing of the tulips is absolutely beautiful and done extremely well. The paper is white linen, but not a heavy weight paper or cardstock...it is much lighter weight paper than the note cards I order elsewhere. The envelopes are not lined. The box is nice but was smashed in shipment so I couldn't present these as a gift to someone. I do hope the other cards and holiday cards are better quality. I hope the majority of the cost goes to The Met.

Prettier than the picture

The picture makes them look gray, but they are same linen white color as the other cards in the series. The Tulips are every bit as lovely as the Dragon Flies cards, which I have used for years. The gold embossing is comparable to the embossed dragon flies and other similar styles. I bought mine to keep and use, but these would make a nice gift.
