Description

Our delicate Byzantine Peacock Earrings, moon-shaped with peacocks on either side of a tree with branches ending in arabesques, are based on a pair of original gold earrings (6th–7th century) featuring lovely opus interrasile work in the Museum's collection. Opus interrasile is a technique in which patterns are formed by making openings in flat metal surfaces that highlights the play of light and shadow. This technique was one of the more innovative jewelry-making methods used in Late Antique and Early Byzantine styles, a process that peaked around 600 A.D. Like the original earrings, our adaptation is accented with a beaded rim and a scrollwork border.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from clasp does not work These are beautiful earrings which sparkle and I love the way they look on, however, the first time I wore them, the clasps did not work. I had to put on earring guards so they wouldn't fall out and the loop that goes through the ear lobe is so delicate I was worried I was going to deform it if I tried to bend it to work. This makes them essentially unwearable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Okay They're okay...more trouble toreturnthan keep but I wouldn't purchase again. Why create a dangly earring with a broad base and then only have the design on one side? I have to put these on the opposite way so the pattern will show on the right side.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clasps do not work I received them as a mother's day gift from my daughter. I loved them. Unfortunately the clasp was loose and it stuck to my scarf. Thus I lost one of them. I searched every where and could not find it. I am so upset. They are gorgeous, however, due to their design I had to wear them in opposite way so that the front of the earring could stay facing front. Well, now I am thinking to buy another pair but I am not sure if all have the same problem regarding the clasps.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from One sided I bought these earrings several years ago.  When purchasing I did not notice the elaborate pattern, as shown, is not duplicated on the reverse side.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Only look good on one side.... I bought these, but then returned them the next day when I realized the pattern was only on one side.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from had high hopes I so wanted these earrings, but the coloration on them did not match; one had blacker etching than the other. Perhaps no one but me would have noticed, but I wasn't going to pay that price for a non-match.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful I saw all the reviews that said that they were disappointed that the filigree was only on one side and thought that these people had no idea how these were probably made in antiquity - I bought a pair for my wife and she loves them - they are slightly larger then you would expect from the illustration on this site but are lightweight and look very pretty in a traditional way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eye-catching and Gorgeous! I bought these a few weeks ago and I'm so glad I did. Comfortable for sensitive ears and spectacular at sight.
