By William Lach

The Flight of the Bumblebee by Nikolai Rimsky- Korsakov. An American in Paris by George Gershwin. The Four Seasons: Winter by Antonio Vivaldi, Classical music is filled with pictures, and this book and CD set introduces kids to great music through great works of art. Thirteen pictures set the scene for the music, accompanied by the CD track number and guided questions that prime readers to listen for specific sounds. When the track is played, readers will look and listen as never before. Also included in the book is an introduction to musical instruments—strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion—including the trombone, seen on the cover in Georges Seurat's Circus Sideshow, the painting that is used in the book to illustrate track 13, The Carnival of the Animals: Finale by Camille Saint-Saëns.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My 15 month old loves this book and cd! He loves the nutcracker and Romeo and Juliet track, instinctively responding differently to the different pieces and cries when ever track 12 Billy the kid comes on so we skip track 12 for now. I think the deep low drums scare him. It was incredible to watch his responses to the different pieces. Based on his response to this we are introducing more orchestra music to his day each day whenever possible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Whole family loves The whole family enjoys this book/cd combo. It's very creative, bringing both the paintings and music to life. My four year old was able to listen and start picking out the various instruments from the recording. The chosen artwork is as much a delight for the eyes as the music is for the ears. I just wish there were more books like this! It would make a very inspiring series for artist/composer study.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can You Hear It? This item was purchased as a new baby gift. I didn't think it was too soon to get Mom and Dad reading about and listening to good music. When the little darling is ready the parents will be ready to share opportunities to read about and listen to superior classical music selections. The art work selections were impressive and give another dimension of educational opportunity for the listener/reader. It was reasonably priced and has a pocket for the CD recording to be stored on the first page of the book. It is a great gift.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you love music and art, you will love this book My son is 5 year-year old and for the past 2 years we have been listening to the music (cd) and have been reading the book, looking at the beautiful paintings, dancing along. It is a great way to teach your child about the art and the music, and spend time together.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful book! I bought this for a young boy who is very artistic and inquisitive. It was a gift so I wasn't able to listen to the CD but the book was so beautiful and informative, I am sure he will enjoy quiet moments of looking and listening. I love children's books and may have to purchase another one for myself!
