Description

This artful tote showcases the spectacular red chalk studies for Michelangelo Buonarroti's (Italian, 1475–1564) The Libyan Sibyl, an enthroned woman painted on the northeast end of the Sistine Chapel ceiling. The final fresco exhibits a monumental female subject in a complex pose, partially clothed with the exception of her powerful shoulders and arms. The preparatory sketches (ca. 1510–11) in The Met collection were clearly drawn from a young male assistant in the artist's studio.
