Description

Our oversize poster reproduces Claude Monet's (French, 1840–1926) beautiful Water Lilies canvas of 1919. Monet was a key figure in the Impressionist movement that transformed French painting in the second half of the nineteenth century. As part of his extensive gardening plans at Giverny, Monet had a pond dug and planted with lilies in 1893. He first painted the subject in 1899, and thereafter it dominated his art.

Monet left much of his late work incomplete and released few paintings for sale, reporting that he was not yet satisfied and was still working on them. This canvas in The Met collection is one of four water lily pictures that, unusually, the artist did finish, sign, and sell in 1919. Today, his water lily paintings are among the most recognized and adored works of art in the world.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What can I add to “Monet” and to “Water Lilies “? A shock arrived with the Monet. It is so big. But we have a wall to fit. The frame is costing more than the poster! No matter. It is worth it. What a beautiful thing for us to be able to look at every day and be transported ...
