Balancing function and fantasy, the great designers of the 20th century have created some of the most beautiful shoes ever made, adapting styles from the past with a contemporary sensibility. This carefully detailed shoe ornament pays homage to the original, designed in 1957 by Roger Vivier (French, 1913–1998) for the House of Dior (French, founded 1946), in the collection of the Museum's Costume Institute.
