The tin-glazed earthenware known as maiolica reveals much about the culture and spirit of Renaissance Italy. Spectacularly colorful, these magnificent objects were generally made for use rather than decoration and present a fascinating glimpse into daily life. Our charming tea towel features an albarello, or apothecary jar in The Met collection, which was produced in Faenza about 1480–90; it features a shield with the arms of the Baglioni family of Perugia.
