This vivid vase has been reproduced from an original Ming dynasty (1368– 1644) jar in The Met collection. This handsome prototype, crafted of porcelain with incised decoration under colored glazes, has a Zhengde mark that dates it to 1506–21. Its allover decorative motif of a writhing dragon is captured in bright green on a yellow background. Wares of the Zhengde era marked the end of a period of great development and high achievement in Chinese ceramic arts.
