Description

In ancient Egypt, the djed pillar symbolized both eternity and stability and functioned as a hieroglyph.

A djed pillar is among the amulets found around the neck of the Lady Djedmutesankh, a wife or daughter of the High Priest of Amun. The four amulets - cobra, vulture, heart, and djed pillar—together read, from right to left: "Mut (the vulture goddess) says, 'may her heart endure.'" They may even be a pun on her name, which can be interpreted as "Mut says, 'may she live.'" Our pendant necklace is designed after Lady Djedmutesankh's original amulet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing bead coloring and authentic look! What a price for an Egyptian masterpiece in a necklace! The colors here are wildly beautiful and the stones are REAL! This is a 17 1/2" necklace with a 2 inch extender and I love that the Met did that because there are others that need a longer necklace. This necklace was a true bargain too as it was on sale. The craftsmen at the Met Shop really know how to replicate some of the fabulous works from the museum and this piece is one of them. It is bright with color, just the right size and the djed is in a satin finish gold, but with no inscriptions or carvings. I have already purchased the other djed the museum offers and wear it often. I sincerely hope the museum will continue making these beautiful Egyptian reproduction necklaces and jewelry for us all to enjoy! Highly recommended!
