Scenes depicted in reliefs, paintings on tomb walls, and representations of jewelry from panel paintings and coffins illustrate how jewelry was made and worn in ancient Egypt.
An ancient Egyptian necklace in the collection of the British Museum (Middle Kingdom, Dynasty 12, ca. 1900–1800 B.C.) is strung from carnelian beads capped with gold. Ovoid and ball beads capped either in gold or silver were a popular style for Middle Kingdom jewelry. Our earrings are adapted from this exquisite piece.
Produced in cooperation with the British Museum.
