Our singular earrings celebrate a pair of loving bird-shaped gold earrings in The Met collection, which were made in the second century B.C. The original adornments were created after Alexander the Great conquered the Persian empire in 331 B.C.
This unprecedented contact with distant cultures exposed Greek art and artists to new and exotic influences. An increasingly affluent society demanded luxurious objects, especially gold jewelry, of which a wide variety was produced in the Hellenistic period—one of the most complex and exciting periods of ancient Greek art. With technical virtuosity, ancient Greek artists executed sumptuously ornate designs such as these sweet dove earrings, the source for our contemporary pair.
