Description

Designed to be looped around the neck, this opulent, extra-long necklace recalls a rare ancient Egyptian bracelet in The Met collection. The original piece (Dynasty 12, ca. 1950–1900 B.C.) was made during the Middle Kingdom.

In ancient Egypt, such adornments not only beautified the wearer but also served as amulets, protecting their owners from harm. Finely worked pieces of jewelry were placed in the tombs of the royal family and high-ranking officials.

The bracelet, found with the mummy of Satsebek during the Museum's 1921–22 excavations at Lisht, showcases tubular beads in rich green and turquoise hues that were favored by the Egyptians.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful mummy bead type necklace! I love Egyptian art and this piece is an excellent example of the jewelry of ancient Egypt! I have some real mummy beads over 3,000 years old and a scarab ring and I bought this piece to double and wear when I want to. It looks like it was just taken from a tomb and every detail is in this necklace. The length is wonderful and unisex for guys who love and wear beads, such as me! The price is just right and I got this necklace on sale which really thrilled me. There are a myriad of blue/green hues in this necklace and they all perfectly match. The clasp is big and easy to close too and it is quite secure. The Met Shop has the most interesting and authentic reproduction jewelry and I hope they continue bringing us more beautiful Egyptian pieces such as this one.
