Our wooden puzzle is inspired by the magnificent Sphinx of Hatshepsut (ca. 1479–1458 B.C.) in The Met collection. This colossal granite sphinx portrays the female pharaoh with the body of a lion and a human head, and was one of at least six granite sphinxes that guarded her mortuary temple. The sphinx has a long history in Egyptian art, the most famous example being the great sphinx at Giza.
