Description

Add a pop of 20th-century color—and a bit of The Met collection—to your wrist with this evocative geometric watch design.

I Saw the Figure 5 in Gold in The Met collection is from a series of abstract portraits of his friends by artist Charles Demuth (American, 1883–1935). This 1928 work pays homage to the American poet and physician William Carlos Williams. Demuth's portrait consists of images associated with "The Great Figure," a poem describing the experience of seeing a red fire engine with the number 5 painted on it speeding through the city.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great graphics! Takes a couple of days for watch band to soften and become comfortable. I wear it all the time now and always receive a compliment or am asked about it. The poem is short and fun. We have many firefighters in our family, they think the watch and poem are pretty terrific!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cool Looking but Pretty Slight Build I bought this watch because I like the graphics but was somewhat disappointed in the build quality. I especially am concerned about the plastic buckle on the band. Perhaps it is more durable than it looks but I am concerned that it would not take much the break it; would a metal buckle really be too much to expect? Also, the band is very stiff making it difficult to put the watch on and have it be at the desired fit, and even more difficult to remove.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good looking Deserves a better quality watch Good looking and Potentially fashionable. But for little kids, wear once, break or loose on the playground. If they could make these using something affordable but durable enough for daily wear it would be different. I bought two as gifts. I gave something else when I saw the poor quality and cheapness of the watches. Sorry, but that is the way it is. Many other things I have bought from The MET have been very satisfying and better made.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lightweight This watch is visually striking and very light to wear. The cost of it seems a bit high for the materials used. I have purchased other watches from the Met in the past and for a very similar cost, the materials used to make the watch were more substantial. If you are looking for a visually appealing, lightweight watch with a comfortable plastic band (May take a day or two to break in), you may like this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Fabulous Number 5 I have been admiring this watch for a long time. I love the story behind the wonderful Demuth painting, the William Carlos Williams poem. I have also enjoyed Robert Indiana's Number 5 series of paintings with Homage to artist and poet. The watch design is graphically beautiful and very arty.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So disappointed I have bought many items from the Met Store and have been satisfied with them all. The materials were shoddy and flimsy. I put it on once and was afraid it would break apart when I took it off. I sent it back the next day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, Fun Watch Great fun watch. Well priced. I always enjoy seeing art on my wrist. The occasional comments from strangers is a selfish plus. Five stars.
