French Stained-Glass Motifs Ornaments
Stained glass ornaments are the perfect Met Museum souvenirs.
Four French stained-glass treasures serve as the inspiration behind these luminous ornaments. Two of the original stained-glass works—a vibrant foliate border section (ca. 1140–44) and a jewel-toned panel depicting angels swinging censers (ca. 1170)—are on view in the Medieval Art galleries at The Met Fifth Avenue, and two (ca. 1240 and ca. 1320–30) can be found at The Met Cloisters. Both of the panels at The Cloisters are examples of a type of stained-glass painting called grisaille, which refers to a nonfigurative ornamental design painted in black line on colorless glass.
