This elegant tumbler, crafted by the virtuosic glass artists at Fy-shan, borrows the decorative motifs on a glass beaker with relief-cut decoration (9th–10th century) in The Met collection. Attributed to Iran, the exceptional vessel in the Museum's holdings is embellished with a band of palmettes, half-palmettes, and floral designs. Few examples of Islamic relief-cut glass are as finely executed or well-preserved.

This item was created for the Heirloom Project, led by designer Madeline Weinrib. The initiative celebrates the 10th anniversary of The Met's reimagined Islamic Wing by seeking engagement with global artisans who pursue historic techniques and design principles. The Heirloom Project commemorates The Met's Islamic art collection, supports the Museum, and endeavors to preserve traditional craftsmanship.
