Description

Making a timeless statement, this luxurious handcrafted necklace celebrates an ancient Greek gold necklace (ca. 300 B.C.) in The Met collection. Said to have been found before 1913 in Macedonia, near Thessaloniki, the original necklace is from the impressive group of Hellenistic gold adornments known as the Ganymede jewelry.

The gold strap necklace on which we have based our stylish adaptation is made of three double loop-in-loop chains with double interlinking and a fringe of beechnut pendants. The terminals take the form of an ivy or grape leaf and have a border of beaded wire and a rosette in the center. Strap necklaces have been found in many areas of the ancient Greek world, including southern Italy, Asia Minor, and around the Black Sea.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Design is superb Love this necklace- get lots of complements. The only issue is the clasp, which is just a hook. It seems steady and has not been an issue as of yet but for an expensive necklace, I would prefer a more secure fastening apparatus (even if not authentic to the original design).

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed I wanted to love this, but was disappointed with the quality & returned it. The necklace was also slightly defective (because of poor quality?) in that there was a large gap in one area between the two chains to which the little flowers are attached.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Stunning Necklace The design of this necklace is amazing. What is hard to see in the photos is that the main chain of the necklace that the drops are attached to is very intricate, detailed, and just stiff enough to make the drops lay correctly when worn. This necklace is well made and will complement both casual and dressy outfits. I was a little concerned about the clasp closure before buying, but after receiving it, I am no longer concerned. The extension chain must be tugged thru the hook closure with a little effort (the gap is tiny) which makes the necklace very secure. Very happy overall.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Bought this during a trip to NY about 9 months ago. Simply stunning. I get a lot of complements on this piece. Clasp is the only small negative. I would prefer a more secure clasp.
