Description

This case of our artful colored pencil set features a detail from May Picture by Paul Klee (German, born Switzerland, 1879–1940), an original 1925 work in The Met collection.

Known for linear, childlike imagery, abstracted forms and symbols, and an enthusiasm for color relationships, Paul Klee pursued a wide range of subjects during his long career, such as literature, music, poetry, and daily life. Klee was influenced by the Cubism of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, as well as his involvement with the German Expressionist group Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) and his lifelong friendship with fellow artist Wassily Kandinsky.

Beautiful set. Such a pretty box design and great quality of pencils. You need to get used to them as they are a bit unpredictable in achieving colors (compared to regular colored pencils) but the result can be very interesting. I have created couple of art works with them and very happy with outcome.

These have such a cool look and you can somewhat control how much of which colors appear by using different sides of the pencil. I think these might be a pain to sharpen though... but they're fun to use!

I went to the met and bought the green one only, big mistake, I should of bought all the colors. Now that I'm looking back I want to get them but they do not have them single anymore which it's upsetting because although these are it all in one case, the do not say "The Metropolitan Museum of Art New York" on the side, these just have the actual brand... I would love the whole set but with that on the side. I ended buying the regular black led one instead because people there either didn't know what I was talking about or they lied when they said they no longer sell them... and pointed me to the black led ones. _x000D_ I wish they carried them again with the name of THE ME.T.

I have owned one or two pencils like these over the years and so enjoyed them. The marbled color is always a surprise when drawing. And, after using them a bit you develop techniques for rotating the pencil in your hand to add bursts or line of color changes. When I saw this set available from the Met I was so pleased. The pencils and the tin they come in could be a display piece themselves.

Bought these for adult coloring books. Pencils have thick points. Would be hard to sharpen. The pencils are hard to use, because it is difficult to make them look "smooth" . They have a flat, dry, scratchy look when used. The shading in the pencils is very hard to see. Will be shipping them back!

The Perfect Artist Gift

The pencils were a gift to my budding artist granddaughter. Her face glowed is awe when she unwrapped her gift. The pencils are enclosed in a beautiful storage case. These pencils flow onto the artist paper and blend beautifully._x000D_ MjG_x000D_ Alabama

I am red-green (partially) colorblind. I like these pencils because they allow me to get very cool blended effects without having to get someone to choose complementary colors for me.
