Description

Of all his artistic endeavors, stained glass brought Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) his greatest recognition. In the early 1890s, he developed a method of blending different colors together in glass while it was in a molten state, achieving subtle effects of shading and texture. He called the result "Favrile" (from fabrile, an Old English word meaning "hand-wrought"). Our bookmark celebrates Grapevine (ca. 1902–15), a beautiful Favrile glass window in The Met collection.
