Holiday Gift Guide:
Hammered Disc Earrings
Our gleaming earrings were inspired by a pair of gold ear pendants from the Calima or Narino regions of Colombia, originally crafted by members of the Caldas or Sonso societies between the 13th and the mid-16th century. They count among the rare ornaments in the Precolumbian gold collection at The Met in the form of large, circular pendants.
Precolumbian ear ornaments composed with such large, circular pendants rarely survive intact. This grandiose and complete pair illustrates the size such ornaments attained in ancient Colombia. Our striking adaptations add a regal touch.
