Hedgehog Glass Ornament
Our adorable ornament pays homage to A Hedgehog (Erinaceus roumanicus) (before 1584), a work on paper by Hans Hoffmann (German, ca. 1545/1550–1591/1592). This endearing watercolor and gouache dates back to an era in which the natural world became an increasingly popular subject in art, especially with the work of Hoffmann's predecessor, Albrecht Dürer (German, 1471–1528), whose studies of flora and fauna were highly admired.
