Italian Crèche Holy Family Figurine Set
We've translated a trio of crèche figurines—traditionally created for a Christian Nativity scene—into eye-catching resin adornments for the home. The originals, each Italian and crafted in the second half of the 18th century, include a model of the infant Jesus by Giuseppe Sanmartino (Italian, 1720–1793), as well as the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph, both attributed to Salvatore di Franco (active 18th century). The practice of restaging religious events with figurines reached the height of its complexity in 18th-century Naples, and the Museum's group of Neapolitan crèche is one of the finest examples of the art form.
