J. Hannah Diptych Carnelian Ring

The Diptych Ring from J. Hannah reimagines the adornment worn by an anonymous member of the prominent German merchant family, the Slosgins, in one of the earliest known works (1557) by the artist Barthel Bruyn the Younger (German, ca. 1530–before 1610). The ring's four-leaf-clover motif, known as a quatrefoil, was a prominent feature of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, and bears associations with good luck and fortune. This contemporary version includes two fleur-shaped settings with carnelian embellishments.

This jewelry reimagines pieces worn by the subjects of four portraits in The Met's European Paintings collection, translating historical designs immortalized in paint into wearable works for the modern day.
