Referencing The Met's Judith with the Head of Holofernes (ca. 1530) by Lucas Cranach the Elder (German, 1472–1553), the Quatrefoil Pendant from J. Hannah transforms the opulent collar worn by the painting's heroine into a sleek, contemporary necklace. Having seduced and then beheaded the Assyrian general who besieged her city, Judith is quite literally "dressed to kill," and proudly displays her vengeance in an elaborate, jewel-clad costume. This artful pendant features a fleur-shaped charm with a prong-set carnelian stone and a delicate Japanese Akoya baroque pearl suspended from the base.

This jewelry reimagines pieces worn by the subjects of four portraits in The Met's European Paintings collection, translating historical designs immortalized in paint into wearable works for the modern day.
