Description

An elegant glazed stoneware platter (ozara) in The Met collection, originally produced in western Japan in the early 17th century, is the source for our stylish mugs. Influenced by glazed pottery from Korea, it is an example of Karatsu ware, the utilitarian ceramics that were often used in tea ceremonies. The platter's simple, unpretentious beauty draws from its charming drawing of a pine tree with six branches, brushed onto the plate with iron oxide.
