Jeweled Snowflake Brooch

This glimmering brooch pays homage to Louis C. Tiffany's (American, 1848–1933) star-strewn decoration for the ceiling of Hershey Community Theater in Pennsylvania. Commissioned by Milton Hershey around 1915, the design included constellations of silvery snowflake-like stars against a dusky blue ceiling to evoke a velvety evening sky. Retractable glass light fixtures were imagined to softly illuminate the constellation until a performance began, after which they would withdraw so that lights from the stage could cast a stellar sparkle on the ceiling. Although the project was never realized, our jewelry celebrates Louis C. Tiffany's dazzling vision, now in The Met collection.
