Our lovely Coin Pearl Earrings are based on a pair of beautiful gold earrings from Episkopi (a city on the southern coast of Cyprus) in The British Museum. They feature 24K gold-plated sterling silver and cultured freshwater pearls.
The original earrings are set with a glass seal showing a helmeted head. Lavish jewelry became more common during the imperial period (after 27 B.C.). Goldsmiths combined Etruscan and Hellenistic styles and techniques with new Roman decorative themes.
Produced in cooperation with the British Museum, London.

I love these earrings and they became my favorites.
Unfortunately, the wire on one earring broke after 6 years and the gold came off quite early making them more of a silver tone.
I lost my silver coin pearl earrings over a year ago and have not been able to replace them. I've called every Met Store to no avail. Apparently The Met Store does not carry them in silver anymore. Yes, I could buy them in gold, but I mostly wear white gold or silver jewelry. If anyone has a pair in Silver, I'd love to buy them. Please, MET STORE BUYERS, start _x000D_

Having lost a single earring from a previous purchase of same, I was desolate to find the new pair to have flat pearls a fraction of the originals (see photo attached)
Very attractive and stylish for everyday or occasion. But I am very disappointed that the gold wore off. The description says it is 24K gold overlay on sterling silver. I bought a pair two years ago in NY and did not use cosmetics or perfumes or get it wet. But but the gold wore off after about 18 months. The coin pearls have retained their lustre and still look great. I will probably have to get the pearls re-set but this will be at a cost.
The design of these earrings is out of the ordinary, and they are flattering and light on the lobe. It's an interesting variation on classic pearl earrings.
These are the most comfortable earings I have ever owned. They have quickly become my signature piece, artsy and delicate which is often hard to find together. I have smaller features and these are quite noticeable but not overpowering. LOVE them.
I was thrilled to put in my order on Cyber Monday, without realizing what a special day it was to make a purchase; I not only had a discount but free postage as well! I bought the earrings to replace one of a pair that I had lost. They are handsome although the workmanship is not as good as I had anticipated. Frankly, it is far too much trouble to ask for a replacement.
