Our decoupage tray, created exclusively for The Met by New York City–based designer John Derian, reimagines an anatomical cuirass from The Met collection. Worn to protect the torso during battle, the metal armor dates from the late 5th–4th century BCE and is one of the finest Etruscan cuirasses known to survive. Derian's tray was crafted in celebration of Costume Art, The Costume Institute's spring 2026 exhibition exploring the connection between clothing and the body. Drawing on The Met's vast collection and beyond, the exhibition pairs garments with works of art to show how clothing shapes identity, creativity, and self-expression across time and cultures.
