John Derian Skeletons Decoupage Paperweight
See our full assortment.
Crafted exclusively for The Met by New York City–based designer John Derian, this decoupage paperweight evokes a 19th-century engraving by José Guadalupe Posada (Mexican, 1852–1913). The two elegantly dressed skeletons, walking arm in arm, were originally part of a broadsheet vignette for the feast of the dead. Derian reimagines the artwork as a decorative paperweight in celebration of Costume Art, The Costume Institute's spring 2026 exhibition exploring the connection between clothing and the body. Drawing on The Met's vast collection and beyond, the exhibition pairs garments with works of art to show how clothing shapes identity, creativity, and self-expression across time and cultures.
