Description

The blossoms strewn across our journal are adapted from a Noh costume in The Met collection, which is made of brocaded silk, or karaori (literally, "Chinese weave"). In Noh theater, karaori robes are worn to portray female characters, teenage courtiers, or samurai. This magnificent late 18th-century kimono features a delicate pattern of wild pinks, chrysanthemums, bush clover, Chinese bellflowers, and miscanthus grass on a deep red ground.
