Description

Our luminous ornament borrows the cascading wisteria framing the idyllic View of Oyster Bay (ca. 1908). Louis C. Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) designed this leaded glass window to decorate the Manhattan residence of silk manufacturer William C. Skinner, whose family home in Massachusetts was named Wistariahurst. However, the window's picturesque view assumed an association with Oyster Bay for its similarity to the vistas off the north shore of Long Island, where the Gilded Age visionary had recently built a country estate.

Produced in cooperation with the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art, Winter Park, Florida.
