This elegant kiddush cup—a Jewish ceremonial wine cup reserved for benediction and prayer on holidays and the eve of Shabbat—evokes a British depiction of the Tree of Life (first half 17th century) in the Museum's holdings. This uniquely embroidered canvas textile showcases the divine tree, introduced in the Book of Genesis, miraculously bearing multiple species of fruits. The artisan's addition of animals and celestial bodies likewise alludes to the idyllic abundance in the Garden of Eden.
