Description

This vivid vase has been reproduced from an original Ming dynasty (1368–1644) jar in The Met collection. This handsome prototype, crafted of porcelain with incised decoration under colored glazes, has a Zhengde mark that dates it to 1506–21. Its allover decorative motif of a writhing dragon is captured in bright green on a yellow background. Wares of the Zhengde era marked the end of a period of great development and high achievement in Chinese ceramic arts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely and Versatile Vase I bought this vase as an after-Christmas present to myself, and I’m very glad I did. I’m neither a collector of nor an expert in the field of Chinese art, nor am I especially enamored of dragons. I simply find the piece aesthetically pleasing. It’s a well-designed Limoges piece (according to the stamp on the bottom) of nice weight and even balance, and looks exactly as shown in the catalogue. I use it as a stand-alone decorative piece in my foyer, yet it would look lovely in every room in the house. It’s also a very versatile piece that can work well as a flower vase, a receptacle for a small potted plant, a container for small utensils in the kitchen, or a toothbrush/cosmetic brush holder in the bathroom. It’s a piece that would work well in the office, too, for both decorative and utilitarian purposes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ming Dragon Vase I purchased as a Christmas gift. It arrived a day or so late but was still a nice gift. It has bold colors and design and is well made.
