Description

These herb-bedecked napkin rings pay homage to the verdant gardens at The Met Cloisters, the branch of The Met devoted to the art and architecture of the Middle Ages.

Places of beauty and contemplation, the three enclosed gardens contain more than 300 species of plants, which illuminate the important role that plants played in medieval art and life—from the medicinal to the allegorical.

Herbs were employed in a fascinating variety of ways in medieval times. The herbs that grow in the Bonnefont Herb Garden at The Met Cloisters are grouped according to their medieval uses, including household plants; medicinal plants; culinary plants; brewing herbs; plants used by medieval artists; plants associated with love and marriage; and magic plants.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice Idea But Disappointing I was thrilled to receive the napkin rings, but upon opening the box, the items looked dull and poorly manufactured. I slipped them onto napkins thinking that I'd get a better idea of their look, and it didn't help much. However! They are definitely well-made, and will last for years. And I love the variety of herbs selected for the rings. There's also a nice variety of sizes and "hefts" making it possible to select just the right motif for the occasion. They're not bad enough to send back, but I wish they resembled the picture a little more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful!! I received the napkin rings today and am very pleased. They are beautiful and well made. They appear to be actual herbs dipped in gold. It will be a delight to have my guests name the herbs. I hope to enjoy them for years to come.
