Description

This elegant Christmas card features a detail from The Adoration of the Magi by Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones (English, 1833–1898). Working for Morris & Co., with inspiration from influential designer William Morris (British, 1834–1896), Burne-Jones created this masterful tapestry. Hand-woven of wool and completed in 1902 after his death, it displays the lush floral backgrounds that typify Morris's style.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful but ... This image is richly detailed and a pleasure to look at, and provides food for contemplation, as Mary looks (humble? Introspective? exhausted?) and Jesus appears (shy? frightened?), like a typical little one, attached to his mother. The angel seems to glow. However I was surprised and disappointed to find that there is a vertical brown "line" right through the faces of Mary and Jesus (on all the cards of all 3 boxes I purchased). It appears to correspond to a fold or a stain in the original tapestry (not a printing error), but I am wondering why it was not corrected for the purpose of making this card image - ESPECIALLY since there is no such flaw evident on the online sample. False advertising. Perhaps in the future they might make a cleaner, larger card of the entire image, which includes all three wise men (a little picture of the whole tapestry is included in the artist information printed on the back of these cards.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Special! This is the most special card I have ever purchased for Christmas. The look on Mary's and Jesus' faces makes my heart melt! The artist really captured the moment like no other has done. Mary and Jesus look so very sweet, as does the wise man. I can't think of the words I feel when I look at this card. I will probably save one, just so I can look at it every day for the rest of my life!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rich Color I bought 4 boxes to send out for Christmas 2013.  I chose it because it is a religious image and It is a William Morris image.  I have been sending out MMA cards for Christmas for years; the quality is always excellent.  I always receive compliments.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful card; wish there was an extra envelope The card is lovely and high quality. I could wish for a warmer greeting text on the inside - even just an added exclamation point. I really wish that each set came with an extra envelope. When sending out ~100 cards, mistakes on addresses are inevitable. One card bounced in the mail and came back to me, and i'm vexed that I don't have an extra envelope to use for re-sending. Overall very satisfied, and EXTREMELY satisfied with the customer service I received related to this order.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful card Very nice card. I have purchased Christmas cards from metmuseum.org for many years. The size of the card and quality has not changed. I feared that this card would be too dark, but it was an exceptional image that I am proudly mailing next week. Highly recommend.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Lovely reproduction of a nativity scene. I'm delighted to use this as my Christmas card this year. I do, however, wish that the Met would use a higher quality of paper for its cards.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful!! I'm proud to send them I like everything in your catalog. I've sent Christmas cards for 50+ years and I'm proud to put my name on these. Recently I've noticed that the quality of paper cards is cheaper and limited in selection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Adoration of the Magi It's nice to see a revival of Burne-Jones. The card is a change from the Renaissance art I usually get for Christmas cards.
