Description

This mini sculpture pays homage to the famous Thinker (Le Penseur), by Auguste Rodin (French, 1840–1917). Part of a proposed relief based on Dante's Divine Comedy, which was never built, Rodin turned it into a freestanding sculpture in the 1880s. The reproduction celebrates a bronze in The Met collection that was cast about 1910 from an original model by Rodin. The brooding nude male has been invested with multiple meanings—poet, judge, sculptor.
