Scrolling Foliage Envelope Locket
Size Information
Made to hold a tiny photo or other personal keepsake, our pretty envelope pendant's design echoes the scrolling foliage pattern found on a luxurious piece of British blackwork embroidery in The Met collection.
Made about 1590, the original textile features silk and gilded-metal-wrapped thread on the finest Flemish linen. A form of embroidery using black silk thread, blackwork was popular in England for garments and textiles under Henry VIII and remained in vogue through the reign of Queen Elizabeth I.
